About us
Before being the “Azienda Agricola Tredici Massimo,” we are a couple and a family. It has been almost 18 years since my wife, Nadia Bartoli, and I created this small business, though I have been working as a woodsman since the age of 25.
Our agro-forestry farm is located in Casore del Monte, a small hamlet in the municipality of Marliana, 600 meters above sea level. Our main activity is timber harvesting, with the subsequent sale of firewood, poles, and wood chips.
In our spare time, we grow potatoes, tend to our fruit trees (cherry, peach, plum, apricot, and apple), and care for a small blueberry plantation. Our work is very hard and demanding, but in return, it allows us to always be together. It has enabled us to best support the growth of our two daughters, who are now grown and help out with the business during our busiest times.
We decided to open this small agricampeggio because we live in a territory rich in natural beauty, where one can truly appreciate the tranquility of a simple, authentic life in the great outdoors.

Our Green Footprint
Agricampeggio Le Carbonaie is the ideal place for those who wish to maintain an eco-sustainable lifestyle even on holiday. Unlike “standard” campsites, our facility stands out for its deep respect for nature, energy saving, reuse, and recycling.
Renewable Energy and Resources
The facility is equipped with a solar thermal system for domestic hot water, while electricity is supplied by a new photovoltaic system. Choosing renewable energy aligns perfectly with our farm’s core activity: timber harvesting and the production of wood chips. These forest biomasses represent a natural and renewable wealth for our mountains and an opportunity for new “green” professions.
Lighting: All pathways and restrooms use low-energy consumption lamps.
Efficiency: Our systems are sized according to actual needs, ensuring no resource is wasted.
Water management
Our drinking water comes from the municipal aqueduct. To manage wastewater, we utilize a primary filtration system followed by a secondary phytodepuration plant (natural wastewater treatment). This allows us to reuse treated water, along with rainwater, for lawn irrigation.
Sustainable Buildings
Our restroom facility was built with a strong focus on sustainable materials. It features a masonry structure with a dry wooden roof made of chestnut beams and fir planks, including specialized insulation and ventilation.
Ventilated Roof: We chose a ventilated roof design to prevent humidity buildup and ensure the durability and healthiness of the structure.
Natural Materials: We successfully balanced modern anti-seismic regulations with the use of natural materials like wood.
Waste Management & Recycling
Near the facilities, you will find a dedicated area for daily waste disposal with bins for various recyclable materials and a composter for organic waste. We encourage all our guests to practice mindful waste separation.
Facilities & Restrooms
The restroom building is divided into men’s and women’s sections.
Accessibility: The women’s section includes a fully accessible bathroom equipped for people with disabilities.
Families: A small nursery area is available for changing infants.
Dish & Laundry area: External washing areas are located under the north and south porches.
Camper Services: A dedicated disposal point for caravan and motorhome wastewater is available on-site.
Pet friendly
A small world to discover, made of special encounters and simplicity.
Upon your arrival, you will be welcomed by Carbone and many other farmyard friends: curious animals used to people’s presence, ready to say hello and offer moments of tenderness, especially to the little ones.
Among rabbits, cats, geese, and other country dwellers, every day becomes an opportunity to rediscover an authentic connection with nature and its rhythms. Here, even a simple greeting can turn into an unforgettable memory.
The Charcoal Pile (La Carbonaia)
Agricampeggio Le Carbonaie… is not just a name. It is a heritage, a craft, and the history of these magnificent lands where families have always shared a profound bond with the forest, its labor, and its gifts.
The Tredici family has passed down the art of woodcutting from generation to generation, producing not only firewood but also charcoal. On the very ground where our campsites now stand, “charcoal clearings” once sat, marked by smoking conical mounds known as carbonaie.
“…My grandfather Ugo, after preparing the clearing, would bring the timber—usually smooth chestnut poles, stripped of all twigs.
Once the center was marked, the wood was arranged to form a sort of central chimney. Longer poles were then leaned against its sides, one over the other, to create the conical mound. The next step was to cover the pile with paltriccia (dry leaves and hay), followed by a layer of earth. At the base, sods of earth (zolle) were positioned to form the calzòlo (the ‘shoe’ or base). All of this served to insulate the wood from the air.
At this point, the carbonaia was lit by dropping embers into the central chimney. It had to be fed day and night with fresh pieces of wood. The ‘cooking’ of the timber began at the top; the charcoal burners would open small air holes (fumi), first at the top and then gradually lower down, to move the combustion zone.
After 7 to 10 days, the charcoal was ready to be packed! I remember with emotion the days when my grandfather made charcoal… there was a particular scent in the air… and Grandpa was always busy, day and night, but happy.”
At the Agricampeggio, Grandpa Ugo has built a carbonaia, exactly as he used to do years ago!
